Is Repair Possible For Your Cell Phone?

Given how much money people invest in their cell phones, any damage to a device can be consequential. You might not be confident about whether cell phone repair is an option. Let's look at some cell repair scenarios and their likelihood of success.

Dunked

Accidentally dropping a cell phone in water is almost a rite of passage in the modern world. In fact, there's a go-to DIY fix involving placing the phone in a bed of rice to dry it out. What happens, though, if the rice doesn't magically fix the problem?

Oftentimes, a phone suffers corrosion due to immersion in water. A phone repair technician may be able to clean the corroded components and get the system back to working condition. However, if that doesn't work, the odds go down because a lot of the components are soldered to the typical cell phone board. A technician might be able to isolate and replace the affected components, but it's a long shot at that point.

Cracked Screen

Sometimes a phone decided to take a hard landing. Unsurprisingly, cracked screens are among the more common cell repair problems.

Generally, if there's some screen activity, there are good odds you can replace a cracked screen and move on. This applies even if the screen looks extremely janky. However, some drops are bad enough that they break the main circuit board and kill activity. Typically, total replacement in this scenario is the best option if the screen isn't fixable.

Won't Power Up

This can be due to a range of issues. A technician may find the fix is as simple as replacing a worn-out power button. Similarly, the phone's battery could be dead to the point of no longer recharging. That is also usually an easy fix. Also, sometimes the phone is coming on but the screen isn't working, and replacing the screen is once more a common phone repair option.

Conversely, there may be issues with the main circuit board. If the damage is bad enough to prevent the phone from powering on, the technician might try to clean the board in the hope the issue is corrosion. After that, though, the odds of repair decrease.

Funky Behavior

Many issues can occur because the screen is wonky or the operating system is having trouble. Again, a screen replacement is a possibility. Sometimes, a technician can restore or upgrade the operating system, too. Generally, if the phone shows some hints of life, repair is probably an option.
